How we handle your information

Privacy Policy

ScoreBoost handles sensitive financial and identity information. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We follow the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and applicable Virginia law.

1.  Information we collect

  • Identity information you provide: name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, and government ID and proof-of-address documents.
  • Credit information: your three-bureau credit reports and monitoring data, accessed through your MyFreeScoreNow subscription with your authorization.
  • Contact details: email and phone number.
  • Site & portal usage: basic technical data (device, browser, pages viewed) collected to operate and secure the site and client portal.

2.  How we use it

We use your information only to provide our services: to verify your identity, audit your credit reports, prepare and submit disputes to the credit bureaus and furnishers on your behalf, track responses, and communicate with you about your file. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for unrelated marketing.

3.  Who we share it with

We share your information only as needed to deliver the service or as required by law:

  • Credit bureaus and furnishers (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, and the creditors/collectors reporting the items) to file and pursue disputes.
  • MyFreeScoreNow, the third-party monitoring provider, which you subscribe to and authorize to share your reports with us.
  • Service providers who help us operate (e.g., secure hosting, mail/print, and portal software) under confidentiality obligations.
  • Authorities when required by subpoena, law, or to prevent fraud.
We never sell your personal or financial information to anyone.

4.  How we protect it

Sensitive documents are uploaded through the secure client portal, not by email. We use encryption in transit, access controls that limit staff access to what their work requires, and reasonable administrative and technical safeguards. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information consistent with the sensitivity of credit and identity data.

5.  Data retention

We keep your information for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal obligations — including the signed rights-disclosure and contract records CROA requires us to retain (generally 2 years). When no longer needed, we securely delete or destroy it.

6.  Your choices & rights

  • Access, correct, or request deletion of the personal information we hold about you (subject to records we must legally keep).
  • Withdraw your authorization and cancel at any time — see your Consumer Credit File Rights and Refund Policy.
  • Manage or cancel the MyFreeScoreNow subscription directly with MyFreeScoreNow.
  • Opt out of non-essential email by using the unsubscribe link or contacting us.
